What are the rules for creating a Domain Name?

The Basic Rules for creating a Domain Name:

                                 

Domains Names with .COM .NET .ORG extensions can be 2 to 63 long.

Domains Names with .INFO .BIZ .MOBI extensions can be 3 to 63 long.

Domainas can contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-); Or a combination of these.

Domain cannot have any spaces.

.COM - to be used for commercial and personal sites

                    
.NET - recommended for companies involved in Internet infrastructure

                    
.ORG - recommended for not-for-profit organizations

                    
.INFO - to be used for both commercial and personal sites

                    
.BIZ - sites restricted to commercial and business purposes

                    
.MOBI - implies that the website is designed for mobile usage

 

 

.com.au and .net.au

 

To own a .com.au or .net.au domain name, you must be an Australian registered company or a business with a registered business number (ABN, BRN, BN).

Your domain must be an exact match, acronym or abbreviation of your company, business, trading name or words in your registered trade mark; Or be closely and substantially connected to you because the domain refers to a product you manufacture or sell or a service you provide.

               
.org.au

 

To own org.au you must have an exact match, acronym or abbreviation of the name of your charity or non-profit organisation; Or connected to you because the domain name refers or is associated with your business practices.
