			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sometimes the smallest and easiest photoshop actions are the most satisfying and can save you lots of time. One of my favorites, is a small action that open a grid layout for my designs.</p>
<p><span id="more-328"></span></p>
<p>So here we go.</p>
<h3>The Steps</h3>
<ol>
<li>Open photoshop and goto Window -&gt;Actions</li>
<li>Then click on the new folder tab and name your folder grid/layout</li>
<li>Now add a new action file and give it a name.</li>
<li>From here it is a matter of recording your action.</li>
<li>Click the record button.</li>
<li>Goto open and navigate to the file which has your grid or layout structure.</li>
<li>Then press OK.</li>
<li>You can add some extra functionality by add layers and folder you often use in your designs.</li>
<li>Once you have got your page setup done, click the stop recording button.</li>
</ol>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-431" title="controlbar" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/controlbar.png" alt="" width="202" height="82" /></p>
<p>And your done.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-432" title="actionend" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/actionend.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="213" /></p>
<p>These actions can be recorded for all the templates, grids and layout you use. Now when you open photoshop, you simply select the action you want to use and click play. It&#8217;s a great timesaver and easily fits into any workflow.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-433" title="grid" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/grid.jpg" alt="" width="521" height="536" /></p>
<p>Enjoy</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With any wordpress theme, a screenshot is required to promote your themes design in the wordpress settings window. WordPress looks in your theme folder for an image with the file name screenshot.png . If you don’t already have a screenshot of your theme, here’s how:</p>
<p><span id="more-374"></span></p>
<h3>Step 1 &#8211; Your wordpress theme design</h3>
<p>Print Screen your wordpress theme or save your design as a .png.<br />
Now open your new image in Photoshop or images editing program.</p>
<h3>Step 2 &#8211; Resizing your Image</h3>
<p>Your screenshot needs to be resized to 300 by 225px<br />
In photoshop this can be done by going to Image &gt; Image Size &#8230; and change the width to 300px and the height to 225px</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-381 aligncenter" title="imagesize" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/imagesize.png" alt="Photoshop Image Size Window" width="397" height="329" /></p>
<p>*note for this to work, Constrain Proportions should be unchecked</p>
<p>A better way to resize your screenshot is to use the crop tool and enter a width a height in the property boxes.</p>
<p>To do this simple go to the crop tool <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-382" title="cropTool" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/cropTool.jpg" alt="Photoshop Crop Tool" width="26" height="23" /> and then at the top of your screen in the crop properties bar, enter width = 300px and height = 225px<br />
<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-383" title="cropproperties" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/cropproperties.jpg" alt="Photoshop Crop Property Bar" width="539" height="25" /></p>
<p>This will constrain your crop to correct size and allow you to choose what area of the screenshot you would like to display.</p>
<h3>Step 3 &#8211; Saving your File</h3>
<p>From here in Photoshop<br />
Go to File &gt; Save for Web…<br />
Choose the PNG file format to save your file<br />
Make sure you name your file screenshot<br />
And save your image file in your theme folder.<br />
And you are done. You should now be able to view your screenshot in your wordpress admin under Appearance &gt; Theme</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-385 alignleft" title="wordpress-themesmenu" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/wordpress-themesmenu.jpg" alt="Wordpress Admin Appearance Theme" width="104" height="86" /><img class="size-full wp-image-386 alignright" title="currentThemes" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/currentThemes.jpg" alt="Wordpress Theme Page" width="445" height="168" /></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Installing brushes in Photoshop is as easy as 1, 2, 3. In this quick tutorial we&#8217;ll walk you through download and installing a brush or brush set into Photoshop.<br />
<span id="more-345"></span></p>
<h3>Step 1 &#8211; Downloading a Brush</h3>
<p>
There are hundreds of resources on the Internet where you can find fantastic free Photoshop Brushes. A quick search in Google will result in a huge collection of brushes. So let&#8217;s download one. I&#8217;m using a new brush I found from <a href="http://123freebrushes.com.com" target="_blank">123freebrushes.com</a> called `Water droplets brush`. Click <a href="http://123freebrushes.com/mineral-sky/water-drops-cloud-sea-river-brush" target="_blank">here and download the brush set</a>. Save the .zip and a extract it. You will be left with a folder in which a there be a .abr file. Save the .abr to a place that is easy to navigate to on your computer. I like to keep all my Photoshop resources all together, so I&#8217;ve saved mine under the folders /Photoshop/Brushes.<br />
Cool, now let&#8217;s open up Photoshop to install our new brush.
</p>
<h3>Step 2 &#8211; Installing our Brush in Photoshop</h3>
<p>
When in Photoshop, select the Brush tool <img src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/BrushTool.png" alt="Photoshop Brush Tool" title="BrushTool" width="28" height="25" class="size-full wp-image-350" />.</p>
<p>Click on arrow of the brush preset picker.<br />
<img src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Brush_toprow_brushselection.jpg" alt="Photoshop Brushes top row selection" title="Brush_toprow_brushselection" width="564" height="33" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-359" /></p>
<p>Click on little triangle in the upper right corner and from the list select `Load Brushes &#8230;`.<br />
<img src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/LoadBrushes.jpg" alt="Photoshop Load Brushes" title="LoadBrushes" width="557" height="288" class="size-full wp-image-352" /></p>
<p>Select your brush set (.abr file) from the open dialog box.<br />
<img src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/opendialogbox.png" alt="Photoshop Brushes Open Dialog Box" title="opendialogbox" width="538" height="92" class="size-full wp-image-353" /></p>
<p>And click open.<br />
Your brushes are now installed. </p>
<p>If you scroll down to the bottom of your brushes picker you should see the newly installed brush set.<br />
<img src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/waterbrushset.png" alt="Water Droplet Photoshop brushes" title="waterbrushset" width="517" height="69" class="size-full wp-image-354" /></p>
<p>Now all that is left to do is start designing with your new brushes.</p>
<p>Enjoy!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Photoshop brushes can be used for more than just painting colours. They are a reusable and re-sizable graphics that can apply effects or patterns to any design. Making a custom brush in Photoshop is easier than you might think. In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a Photoshop brush that will look like stitching, that we can add to our designs.</p>
<p><span id="more-188"></span></p>
<h3>Step 1 &#8211; Making a Stitch</h3>
<p>Open Photoshop and create a new canvas with the Width = 200px Height = 200px and a white background.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-195" title="NewWindow" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/NewWindow.png" alt="New Window" width="335" height="207" /></p>
<p>On a new layer select a black brush (B) <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-210" title="BrushTool" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/BrushTool.png" alt="Photoshop Brush Tool" width="28" height="25" /> 15px with a hardness 100%</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-229" title="brush15px" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/brush15px.png" alt="Photoshop Brush 15px" width="218" height="163" /><br />
Make one dot near the bottom left hand corner. Then go to Filter -&gt; Blur -&gt; Gaussian Blur. Make<br />
the Radius 3.0 pixels.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-199" title="GaussianBlur" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/GaussianBlur.png" alt="Gaussian Blur" width="208" height="207" /></p>
<p>Make a second dot near the bottom right hand corner by selecting the move tool (V)  <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-211" title="MoveTool" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/MoveTool.png" alt="Photoshop Move Tool" width="27" height="27" /><br />
holding alt + shift and dragging the first dot to the right.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-200" title="Brush-holes" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/StichBrush-holes.png" alt="Holes" width="156" height="165" /></p>
<p>Get a black brush (B) 10px hardness 100%</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-230" title="brush10px" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/brush10px.png" alt="Photoshop Brush 10px" width="218" height="162" /></p>
<p>Now on a new layer start your brush stroke in the center of the bottom left hand dot and while<br />
holding shift click top middle of the canvas. Continue holding down the shift key and click in the center of the bottom right hand corner dot.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-212" title="Stitch" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Stitch.png" alt="Photoshop Stitch" width="154" height="163" /></p>
<p>To give some depth you can now add some layer effects to the stitch. Go to Layer -&gt; Layer Style -&gt; Blending Options &#8230;<br />
<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-233" title="DropShadow" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/DropShadow.png" alt="Drop Shadow Effect" width="509" height="415" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-234" title="Bevel" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Bevel.png" alt="Bevel and Emboss Effect" width="509" height="415" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-235" title="Contour" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Contour.png" alt="Contour Effect" width="509" height="205" /></p>
<p>And here is what your stitch should look like. <img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-236" title="FinishedStitch" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/FinishedStitch.png" alt="Finshed Stitch" width="197" height="212" /></p>
<h3>Step 2 &#8211; Now let&#8217;s make the brush</h3>
<p>Go to Edit -&gt; Define Brush Preset &#8230;<br />
<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-214" title="Edit-DefineBrush" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Edit-DefineBrush.png" alt="Edit Define Brush" width="145" height="287" /></p>
<p>And give the brush a name</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-215" title="StitchName" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/StitchName.png" alt="Brush Name" width="319" height="94" /></p>
<p>Now to add spacing to your brush to complete the stitch effect. With your new brush selected, go to your brushes panel (F5 or Window-&gt;Brush) and click on the brush tab. With Brush Tip Shape highlighted, change the spacing to 100% or so that your stitch is side by side. Lastly click the new brush icon <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-249" title="newbrush" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/newbrush.png" alt="New Brush icon" width="18" height="17" />at the bottom of the brushes panel and save your brush with a new name.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-216" title="Brush-Spacing" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Brush-Spacing.png" alt="Photoshop Brush Spacing" width="172" height="244" /></p>
<p>And you&#8217;re done!</p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-217" title="Stitching" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Stitching.png" alt="Stiching" width="264" height="123" /><img class="size-full wp-image-248" title="patch" src="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/patch.jpg" alt="Stitch Patch" width="150" height="150" /></p>
<h3>Conclusion</h3>
<p>To make a higher quality brush start with a larger canvas. You can make a brush 2500px wide and high. To add detail and contrast add more shadows and highlights.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the handy features of wordpress is the ability to add wordpress functions to custom pages. For example, the front page of the <a href="http://www.nextdoormedia.com.au">nextdoormedia.com.au</a> has a section called &#8216;From the Blog&#8217;. Using simple wordpress functions you can easily get information from a blog post.</p>
<p><span id="more-25"></span><br />
One critical thing to remember is if you want to store the blog post in a variable, you&#8217;ll need to use get_the_content() or get_the_excerpt() function calls as these return a string variable. Using the_content() or the_excerpt() function will print out these values and you will not be able to store them in a variable name. Below is an example of how to do this.</p>
<pre name="code" class="php">
require_once('path/to/your/blog/wp-blog-header.php');

// Get the last 1 posts.
query_posts('showposts=1');
while (have_posts()) : the_post();

  $title = get_the_title();
  $link = get_permalink();

  $fromtheblog = '<a href="$link">$title</a>';
  $fromtheblog .= get_the_content('Read More Here');

endwhile;
</pre>
